Donation of Over £200 to local charity

Power Telecoms donates a cheque for over £200 to a local charity.

Power Telecoms, part of the Power Computing group of companies, presented a cheque to the MS Therapy Centre in Barkers Lane, Bedford.

The money is vital for the centre to continue giving various therapies and transport for multiple sclerosis patients in the Bedfordshire area. The centre recently upgraded their entire Telecom System using Power Telecoms services and expertise. Part of Power Telecoms pledge is to donate to all charities that use their services.

Valerie Woods, Centre Manager for MS Centre said “We have recently had installed a new telephone system. We have been extremely pleased with the service, the installation and the engineers involved. We would like to thank Power Telecoms for this service and would thank you for the donation received in respect of the order.”

The MS Therapy Centre, set up in 1983 for people with MS, aims to provide all the therapies, services and support needed for people with multiple sclerosis to manage their condition. The centre is completely self-funded and aims to raise approximately £350,000 a year.

Mike Ianiri, Managing Director at Power Telecoms said “We are very passionate in donating to good causes; the MS Centre in Bedford is a fantastic cause and helps so many patients with much needed therapy.”

"Rolling" Contracts Outlawed

From January 1st 2013, Ofcom rules that an Automatically Renewing Contract (ARC) is no longer enforceable on telephone and/or broadband for residential consumers and businesses with less than ten employees.

Following a study by Ofcom into the practices of telephony and broadband service providers, the watchdog has decided to intoduce a change to General Condition 9.1 which mean that providers can no longer automatically renew the contract of a residential customer or that of a small business with ten or less employees.

From 31st December 2012, communications providers will no longer be able to sign customers onto an automatically renewing contract (ARC) and from 1st January 2013 customers within these sectors must be migrated onto non-rolling contracts.

In addition, providers must be pro-active in helping those customers who wish to migrate to a non-rolling contract and take a more flexible approach to termination fees who wish to change providers after completion of their first fixed term.

Fixed term contracts for the residential customer and small business with 10 or less employees have also now been capped at a maximum of 24 months.

Ofcom's rationale for these changes is to widen consumer choice and increase healthy competition.
